SUS316, like SUS304 and 303, are all austenitic stainless steels. The reason why stainless steel is so resistant to corrosion is that chromium forms a passivation film of chromium oxide on the metal surface, but it is locally damaged and pitting corrosion, that is, oxidation occurs. In order to prevent such corrosion, it is a material made strong against corrosion by carbon stabilization by adding Ti and Nb after solid solution heat treatment at 1050℃~1150℃.
