Injection Molding

Injection molding, where molten plastic is injected into a metal mold, is the most commonly used method in plastic mass production. The initial investment cost for making a mold is high, and it takes about one to three months. It requires a mechanical design suitable for injection molding, but it has the advantages of fast production speed, low part unit price, and mass production of complex structures with bosses/ribs. Injection molding up to 30-50K units is possible, and with a higher number of cavities, one mold can produce hundreds of thousands of parts.

Injection Molding

A process that injects molten plastic resin into a mold cavity at high temperature and lets it solidify into the shape of the mold.

Advantages
  • Precise, high-quality parts
  • Fast, automated mass production
  • Low per-unit production cost
Disadvantages
  • High upfront tooling cost
  • Not cost-effective below the minimum order quantity (MOQ)
  • Limited flexibility for design changes
Information Needed for Injection Molding
  • 3D model file (STP, STEP)
  • 2D drawing (DWG, DXF)
  • Parts list
  • BOM
  • Initial and annual production volume

Finishes
A process that sands and coats transparent plastic surfaces to enhance optical clarity. Suitable for parts where transparency is critical — such as lens covers, windows, and display panels — as well as optical review prototypes. Not suitable for opaque materials or parts with complex internal structures where uniform sanding is difficult. Minor dimensional changes may occur due to the polishing process, and deep scratches or internal bubbles may limit achievable transparency.
A rubber-textured painting process based on Pantone U colors, finished with SF coating after surface preparation and primer application. Suitable when a rubber-like texture, strong matte color expression, or discoloration prevention is needed. Not suitable for parts subject to strong friction or those used in environments where chemical or heat resistance is critical. The finish may peel under strong friction or exposure to acids or ethanol.
